Overview:
Compared to most sports and kids’ activities, Cub Scouts is a great value! Pack 1862 is part of the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) of Scouting America. Your dues cover the national and council program fees, which fund training, insurance, and program resources across the region — and the rest stays right here with the pack, paying for camping trips, the Pinewood Derby, and a year’s worth of other adventures.
Fees (2026–27):
- Scouting America national membership: $85
- NCAC council participation fee: $80
- Pack 1862 dues: $115 ($95 for each additional child)
Total: $280 for your first scout, $260 for each additional sibling.
Military Families:
New this year: Scouting America waives the $85 national registration fee for military families. If a parent or guardian is serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, Coast Guard, the Reserves, or the National Guard, the national fee is waived for your scout — for new members and renewals alike.
To use it, register online and choose “Get Military Discount Code” at checkout. You’ll go through a short verification step, get a code, and enter it at checkout — the national fee drops to $0.
Two things to know: the waiver is available through online registration only, so it cannot be applied to a paper form afterwards, and it covers youth registration, not adult volunteer registration. The NCAC council fee and pack dues are not part of it.
How to Pay:
The national and council fees are collected by Scouting America when you register or renew your membership.
Pack dues can be paid by writing a check to “Pack 1862” and giving it to our Treasurer, your Den Leader, or one of the other leaders. You can also pay via Zelle by using the e-mail treasurer.pack1862@gmail.com.
If the cost is a problem for your family, NCAC offers financial assistance toward the national and council fees — you can read about the options and apply on their financial support page. And whatever your situation, no scout is ever turned away from Pack 1862 because of cost — just talk to any leader. That conversation stays between you and us.
