Cub Scouts is a volunteer-driven program, and Pack 1862 runs on its parents. We ask that every family take on at least one role during the year. It is what makes the events actually happen, and it is the quickest way to get to know the other families in the pack.
There is a wide range of commitment here. Some roles are a single event with a few weeks of planning either side; others tick along through the year at a few hours a month. Below is what we are looking to fill.
Roles that run through the year
- Fundraising Chair — brainstorm and lead a fall and a spring fundraiser (donut sale, bake sale, or whatever you can talk us into).
- Training Coordinator — keep track of adult training and make sure everyone who needs a current certification has one.
- Outreach & Recruiting — plan our recruiting events and make sure we have people at the table.
- Scouting for Food Organizer — run the pack’s part in the fall food drive: groups and maps, bags and door notices, collection boxes, and a group chat to keep everyone straight. It spans two weekends in late autumn.
Camp coordinators
- Twilight Camp Coordinator — point of contact for scouts going to Twilight Camp: announcements, planning meetings, and keeping families ahead of the deadlines.
- Goshen Camp Coordinator — the same for summer camp at Goshen: registration, announcements, planning meetings, and collecting forms.
Single-event organizers
Each of these is one event. A few weeks of planning, and then you are done for the year.
- Pinewood Derby Organizer — plan and run the Derby, usually a weekend in January or February.
- Blue & Gold Organizer — plan and run the Blue and Gold banquet, usually February or March.
- Bake Off Organizer — plan and run the bake off at the December pack meeting.
- Spring Fishing Trip Organizer — pick the date, time and spot, tell everyone, then come along and help with the fishing.
Trips — find us a good one and come along
These three work the same way: hunt down a good deal, check availability, tell the pack, be the point of contact, and join the trip.
